Background
Spaceman Spiff is the alter ego of Calvin, the protagonist of Calvin and Hobbes, appearing in fantasy sequences throughout the strip in which Calvin imagines himself as an intrepid space explorer traversing alien worlds. The planet Zorg is one of the alien landscapes Spiff visits — a hostile, barren terrain populated by alien creatures, typically standing in for a mundane real-world situation Calvin is trying to escape, such as a classroom or a difficult meal. Spiff's adventures on Zorg and similar planets are characterized by dramatic narration, strange geology, and encounters with grotesque alien antagonists who represent authority figures in Calvin's life.
