Nobu Palo Alto is a background trait in the Redacted Remilio Babies NFT collection, nominally depicting Nobu Palo Alto, a location of the Nobu restaurant chain in Palo Alto, California. The background image is actually a photograph of Nobu Shoreditch in London.
Background
Nobu Palo Alto is situated in Palo Alto, the California city at the center of Silicon Valley, home to Stanford University and the headquarters or founding locations of many of the world's largest technology companies. The restaurant serves the tech industry's executive and investor class, giving it a distinct character within the Nobu chain — less celebrity-driven than the Miami or New York locations, and more associated with the overlap between extreme tech wealth and luxury dining.
The background image used for the trait is in fact a photograph of Nobu Shoreditch, a location in east London opened in 2017 as part of the Nobu Hotel Shoreditch.
Production
The use of Nobu Shoreditch in place of Nobu Palo Alto was a deliberate aesthetic choice. Charlotte Fang noted that Nobu Palo Alto is comparatively low-key — closer in feel to a traditional Japanese restaurant than the celebrity-inflected glamour of other Nobu locations — and concluded it "wouldn't have been a good background." Shoreditch, by contrast, fit the collection's vision of its backgrounds as a kind of aspirational itinerary: locations a wealthy, well-traveled young person might be dragged through on vacation. The trait retains the Palo Alto name for vibes despite depicting the London location.[1]
