Dominique de Menil (1908–1997) was a French-born art collector and patron who founded the Menil Collection with John de Menil. Their work in Houston combined collecting, art education and support for civil rights.[1][2]
She directed a museum at Rice University after the couple transferred their art-history teaching program there. Following John's death in 1973, she continued her human-rights work and joined Jimmy Carter in establishing the Carter-Menil Human Rights Prize in the mid-1980s. The Menil Collection opened in 1987.[2]
