Background
David Eugene Dees (9 July 1957 – 31 May 2020) was an American commercial artist and graphic designer who began producing conspiracy-themed digital art around 2003, after encountering 9/11 conspiracy theory content online.[1] Dees had previously worked as an illustrator for Sesame Street Magazine before pivoting to producing and distributing conspiracy imagery on his website DDees.com. His illustrations covered a wide range of conspiracy subjects including chemtrails, anti-vaccine activism, 9/11 conspiracy theories, GMO opposition, Holocaust denial, and Zionist occupation government theories. The Anti-Defamation League documented his work as a significant source of antisemitic conspiracy imagery.[2]
His vaccine checkpoint illustration — depicting a roadside stop where travelers are required to prove vaccination — became one of his more widely circulated images in anti-vaccine online communities. The image's lurid, hyper-detailed digital painting style, combining realistic figures with nightmarish dystopian scenarios, is characteristic of Dees' entire output. He was the subject of the short documentary Do You See What I See? (2021).
