Kerosene (also known as Nyabeat) is a London-based breakcore DJ and cosplay influencer who gained notoriety in 2021 for her involvement in the Nazi Anorexia Cult hoax, a fabricated online controversy created as a performance art piece and trolling operation by Charlotte Fang.[1]

Background

Kerosene established herself within London's underground breakcore music scene, performing as a DJ while also developing a following as a cosplay influencer.[2] Breakcore, a high-energy electronic music genre characterized by rapid tempos, distorted breakbeats, and experimental sound design, emerged from European underground scenes in cities including London in the mid-1990s.[3]

The Nazi Anorexia Cult

In Fall 2021, Kerosene faced an online cancellation campaign after critics discovered controversial content she had liked on her private Twitter account, including a "mongolian george floyd" meme and thinspo (thinspiration) content related to eating disorders.[4]

Rather than apologizing, Kerosene participated in an elaborate deception orchestrated by Sonya Qafi (a persona of Charlotte Fang) in which she claimed her controversial online behavior had resulted from being manipulated by a fictional cult operating under the hashtag #KALIACC.[5] According to Fang's retrospective account, "Heavy attention was drummed up on Instagram with her deflecting her cancel by blaming her anorexia and racism on this supposed cult."[6]

The hoax gained traction when a new Instagram account called "hellokittyrazorblade" appeared, purporting to gather testimonies from other "victims" escaping the fabricated cult. After approximately two weeks, the account revealed the operation as a "sociological study" orchestrated by Miya (another persona associated with Fang). Following this reveal, Kerosene's secondary Instagram account was renamed "miya.cyber.angel.baby" and shared a summary of the operation.[7]

Association with Remilia Corporation

Through 2021 to 2024, Kerosene was a regular DJ at Remilia's London-based rave event series, 33reisen.[8]
