HODL is a hat trait in the Redacted Remilio Babies NFT collection, depicting headwear bearing the word "HODL," a deliberate misspelling of "hold" that became the defining meme of Bitcoin and cryptocurrency culture.
Background
On 18 December 2013, a user named GameKyuubi posted to the Bitcointalk forum with the title "I AM HODLING," writing that he would not sell his bitcoin despite a dramatic price crash, reasoning that he was a bad trader and should not attempt to time the market.[1] GameKyuubi acknowledged typing the misspelling twice, attributing it to having consumed whiskey. Forum members immediately seized on the typo, and within an hour the term had been adopted as a rallying cry. HODL subsequently became one of the most recognized pieces of crypto-native vocabulary, sometimes retrofitted as the backronym "Hold On for Dear Life," though GameKyuubi's original post made no such reference.[2]
The HODL trait reflects the crypto-native culture of the Redacted Remilio Babies community.
