Background

Grand Theft Auto IV was developed by Rockstar North and released in April 2008, set in Liberty City — a fictional recreation of New York City divided into boroughs modelled closely on their real-world counterparts. Algonquin corresponds to Manhattan, and its Chinatown district is modelled on the Canal Street area of lower Manhattan, with individual buildings referencing specific real-world structures: the in-game Dragon Heart Plaza is based on the former Golden Pacific National Bank building at 241 Canal Street, and another building in the district is modelled after the United Orient Bank at 185 Canal Street.

GTA IV was noted at release for the density and fidelity of its urban environment, with Liberty City representing one of the most detailed recreations of a real city in games at the time. The Manhattan background trait in the same collection also draws from Grand Theft Auto IV, depicting the broader Algonquin skyline.
