Pixelady Maker is a collection of 10,000 generative pixel art profile picture NFTs inspired by Milady Maker.[1] Created by artists Atticus and MRTY under the Oekaki Connect collective, the collection features neochibi-style characters rendered in pixel art aesthetics.[2] The project has spawned multiple expansion collections and is considered a derivative work within the broader Milady ecosystem.
Development
Pixelady Maker was created by artists MRTY (also known as Mr. U2B or Mr. Yokou) and Atticus, who together formed what would become Oekaki Connect.[3] The development process took approximately nine months, with Atticus serving as the developer and creating the backgrounds while also helping to sketch traits, and MRTY completing the final artwork.[3]
The collection was designed as a pixel art interpretation of the Milady Maker aesthetic, incorporating street style influences and neochibi character design while adapting these elements to a pixel art format. The project references wider Milady memes and culture alongside internet aesthetics more broadly.
Launch
Pixelady Maker launched on September 13, 2022, minting 10,000 NFTs on the Ethereum blockchain as ERC-721 tokens.[4] The collection was deployed to contract address 0x8fc0d90f2c45a5e7f94904075c952e0943cfccfd.[5]
The project has been described as a "canonized" collection within the Milady derivative ecosystem, indicating some degree of recognition or endorsement from the broader community.[6] All Pixelady Maker branding, assets, and NFTs are released under the Viral Public License, following the copyleft ethos of the Milady and Remilia projects.
Expansion collections
Following the success of the original Pixelady Maker collection, Oekaki Connect has released several themed expansion sets that build upon the Pixelady universe.
Pixelady Maker BC
Pixelady Maker BC launched in October 2022 as the first expansion to the original collection.[7] The collection consists of 1,000 NFTs described as featuring a "spooky aesthetic" inspired by Milady Maker. BC holders received special benefits in subsequent Pixelady releases, including enhanced mint allocations for later expansions.
Pixelady Maker WOTLK
Pixelady Maker WOTLK (Wrath of the Lich King) was released as a free mint expansion specifically for Pixelady Maker BC holders.[8] Described as "the icy cold expansion," WOTLK featured a winter or undead theme and "revived" a selection of burned BC tokens as Death Knights, incorporating gaming references into the collection's lore.
Pixelady Maker CATA
Pixelady Maker: Cataclysm (CATA) represents the largest and most ambitious Pixelady expansion, featuring 20,000 NFTs with a post-apocalyptic aesthetic.[9] The collection launched on Abstract, an Ethereum Layer 2 blockchain, marking Oekaki Connect's first major deployment outside of Ethereum mainnet.
Cataclysm was designed with multiple factions representing different post-apocalyptic themes, including science fiction, horror, and survival aesthetics. The collection provided free mints to existing Pixelady holders on a 1:1 basis, with BC holders receiving a 2:1 ratio.[10] The artwork was directed by Atticus with pixel art by MRTY.
Other expansions
Additional smaller expansion sets have been released, including Pixelady Maker: Radbro, Bored Pixelady Maker, Pixelady Figmata, and Pixelady NUKE, each exploring different aesthetic themes within the pixel art format.
Community and ecosystem
Pixelady Maker exists within the broader Milady and Remilia derivative ecosystem. The collection has been referenced alongside other community-created Milady derivatives and is recognized as part of the wider network of projects inspired by Milady Maker's aesthetic and cultural approach.
The project maintains an active presence through its Twitter account and is supported by the Oekaki Connect team, which continues to develop new expansions and gaming projects featuring Pixelady characters. Oekaki Connect has announced plans for additional Pixelady-related projects including Pixcadia, described as an instance-based dungeon crawler that will support Pixelady characters as playable avatars.
