Meedles Tracksuit is a shirt trait in the Milady Maker NFT collection, depicting a tracksuit top modelled after the butterfly-embroidered tracksuits produced by Needles, a Japanese streetwear label founded under the Nepenthes brand umbrella by Keizo Shimizu in 1997. The name is a portmanteau of "Milady" and "Needles," following the collection's convention of renaming brand references with an "M" prefix. A corresponding Meedles Headband trait appears in the Hat category.

Background

Needles was founded by Keizo Shimizu as a sub-label of Nepenthes, a Tokyo-based company Shimizu originally established in 1988 as a distributor of American goods in Japan.[1] The brand is defined by a synthesis of Japanese craftsmanship and vintage Americana, producing tracksuits, flannel shirts, and reconstructed garments. Needles' tracksuit, the label's most recognizable item, features a five-stripe side panel and a small butterfly embroidery derived from Shimizu's admiration for a tattoo worn by Steve McQueen in the 1973 film Papillon.[2]

The tracksuit gained widespread streetwear recognition in 2017 after A$AP Rocky was photographed wearing the label's glittery track pants, which Highsnobiety described as "the world's most hyped track pants."[3] Needles subsequently collaborated with A$AP Rocky's creative collective AWGE on a co-branded tracksuit collection.
