Remilia Collective
Remilia Collective refers to an amorphous network of artists, contributors, and participants in the broader Remilia Corporation ecosystem. While "Remilia Corporation" is the formal entity producing projects like Milady Maker, "Remilia Collective" encompasses the wider social formation of second-party contributors who have collaborated closely with Remilia Corporation.[1] The terms have been used largely interchangeably with Remilia Corporation, with no clear distinction between them—an intentional ambiguity central to Remilia's post-authorship philosophy.

Charlotte Fang has described the Collective's membership in characteristically paradoxical terms: "Remilia Collective is everyone it wants to be. Anyone ever touched by Remilia is a part of the collective, unless they aren't, and if you have to ask, you aren't."[2] This fluid, self-defining structure embodies Remilia's early 1000 Flowers Dream of a "collective of collectives" that would encompass various subcollectives and movements.[3]
The Collective has existed in multiple phases: an early proposal (2021) of a decentralized collective agency with revenue-sharing structures that never materialized; the Hot Pot (groupchat) era (2021-2023) when the groupchat served as a de facto membership marker; and the current phase (2023-present) where "Collective" continues to reference the wider network of contributors closely collaborating with Remilia, though with less defined boundaries following Hot Pot's closure after Bonkler 9/11.[4]
History
Initial concept (2021)
In early 2021, Remilia Collective was initially conceived as a decentralized collective agency tied to Remilia Corporation. Under this model, member artists would sign with the collective, with a portion of NFT and digital art sales going to the Corporation acting as their agent, matched by contributions to a Collective DAO fund. This fund would support collective art ventures including a planned metaverse gallery and an eventual physical artist colony in Asia.[5]
Proposed subcollectives included 3DTestosterone under FODKORP, "Millennium Platinum Angels" under Ilyena Nienel, and continuation of Fang's pre-existing XCELA Group.[6] However, these subcollectives never gained traction as NFT oriented collectives, and the DAO structure was never implemented. By March 2021, this plan was formally abandoned, with Remilia-associated artists not pursuing independent NFT work outside of Corporation-directed projects.[7]
Hot Pot era (2021-2023)
Following the collapse of the formal DAO structure, "Remilia Collective" evolved into a more fluid designation. During this period, the Collective primarily (though not exclusively) consisted of participants in Hot Pot (groupchat), serving as the social substrate for Remilia's creative output.[8]
The Collective name was used in attribution materials, especially when contributions crossed significantly from artists not formally employed by the Corporation but still part of the wider Remilia social formation. The distinction between the officially hired Corporation team and the more amorphous Collective membership was intentionally unclear, aligned with Remilia's post-authorship principles.[9]
As a collective during this period, it remained tightly controlled by Fang's direction and leadership, with him being the sole person making decisions on membership, representations of what defined the collective direction, and the overall trajectory of their work.[10]
Post-Hot Pot period (2023-present)
The Bonkler 9/11 crisis in September 2023 brought significant changes. The lawsuit and surrounding discussions led Remilia to reveal internal corporate and team structure, lifting the veil on organizational distinctions. Due to lawsuit confidentiality complications, Hot Pot was closed, marking the end of that groupchat's role as a de facto Collective space.[11]
However, "Remilia Collective" continues to be used when referencing the amorphous network of second-party contributors in Remilia's ecosystem. Without Hot Pot as a clear marker, the Collective has become even more diffuse and self-defining, embodying Fang's statement that membership is paradoxically both open and exclusive—known intuitively rather than formally defined.
Relationship to Remilia Corporation
There has never been a clear distinction between Remilia Collective and Remilia Corporation. Both operate under Fang's leadership, with overlapping but not identical participation. The Corporation functions as the formal legal entity producing projects and managing infrastructure, while the Collective represents the broader social and creative network surrounding those efforts.[12]
The name usage depends on context: - "Remilia Corporation" is used for official projects, products, and legal matters - "Remilia Collective" is used when emphasizing community contribution or the wider social formation - Both names are often used interchangeably in public discourse
This ambiguity serves multiple purposes: it aligns with post-authorship philosophy by obscuring individual attribution, creates mystique around membership and participation, and allows flexible credit when projects involve varied contributors.[13]
Distinction from Remilia Corporation (artwork)
While "Remilia Collective" and "Remilia Corporation" are often used interchangeably to reference the same social formation, Remilia Corporation (artwork) represents a distinct conceptual framing. Fang has described Remilia Corporation as itself an artwork—"a conceptual construct defined by the artwork Remilia Corporation."[14]
In this framework: - Remilia Collective: The social network of contributors and participants - Remilia Corporation: The functional entity producing projects - Remilia Corporation (artwork): The conceptual artwork encompassing the entire enterprise
Fang has compared this to Warhol's Factory, describing it as "a groupchat-as-studio-collective modeled as if CCRU met the Factory."[15] Just as the Factory functioned simultaneously as a workspace, social scene, and living artwork, Remilia operates across these registers—with the Collective representing its social dimension.
