FRUiTS MiLADY is a limited-edition 3D NFT collection of six Milady Maker figurines created through a collaboration between Remilia Corporation and FRUiTS Magazine.[1] Released in January 2024 as part of the FRUiTS x REMiLiA pop-up exhibition at DIG SHIBUYA 2024, the collection featured Milady characters styled in outfits based on historical street fashion photographs from the FRUiTS Magazine archives spanning 1998 to 2003.[2]
Development
FRUiTS MiLADY was conceptualized by Charlotte Fang in collaboration with Shoichi Aoki, the founder of FRUiTS Magazine.[1] Remilia reviewed the 1998-2003 FRUiTS magazine archives and selected specific street fashion photographs to recreate as 3D Milady figurines, allowing the character to reference its stylistic predecessors.[1] The trait metadata for each figurine incorporated actual responses given to Aoki by his original photographic subjects, including their fashion tips, favorite music, and occupations from that era.[1]
The collection was developed under Charlotte Fang's executive creative direction, with art direction by Yuyu Jin and 3D modeling by Kirachew.[1] The auction house website design was handled by three, while Scatter developed the auction platform and Cat at Scatter performed model rigging.[1]
Collection and auction
The collection consists of six unique 3D figurines, each representing a different subject from FRUiTS Magazine's archives. The figurines are identified by their original publication date and the subject's first name, spanning from January 1998 to May 1999, with one from March 2001.[1] Each piece references specific fashion aesthetics documented by Aoki during the height of Harajuku street style culture.
The NFTs were auctioned simultaneously over a 48-hour period beginning January 12, 2024 at 11 PM JST.[1] The auction format allowed for five-minute extensions whenever new bids were placed after the initial 48-hour window concluded.[1]
Exhibition context
FRUiTS MiLADY was presented at the FRUiTS x REMiLiA pop-up exhibition held January 12-14, 2024, in Dogenzaka, Shibuya-ku, Tokyo.[2] The pop-up was part of DIG SHIBUYA 2024, an art festival organized by Shibuya City, and included in the Proof of X exhibition featuring digital artists working with blockchain technology.[2] The event also featured an official FRUiTS x REMiLiA merchandise line and the Kagami Academy pixel NFT collection.[2]
