Milady Rave Tokyo was an underground music event organized by Remilia Corporation and held on the night of April 14 into the early morning of April 15, 2023, in Shibuya, Tokyo. It was the first Milady Rave to take place in Asia, and served as the opening event of Remilia-Con 2023, a three-day series of gatherings that also included the "Momentary" gallery art exhibition and a Bonkler launch party. The Tokyo rave marked a significant geographical expansion of the Milady Raves series, which had previously been held in New York, London, and Los Angeles.

Background

The Milady Raves series grew out of Remilia Corporation's practice of staging in-person underground events to complement its online community and NFT projects. Prior editions had established a format built around local underground acts, breakcore DJs, and hyperpop performances, typically running through the night. The Tokyo edition was announced alongside the Bonkler NFT collection, with Remilia-Con 2023 framed as a launch celebration for that project.[1]

The event

Milady Rave Tokyo took place in Shibuya on the night of April 14, 2023, running from midnight to sunrise. Programming featured local underground acts and DJs, as well as the only live performances to date of Based Retard Gang's Clearpill and Luvbug. Remilia provided a simultaneous livestream of the performances through the Milady Village Discord server.[1]

The rave was the first of three days of events comprising Remilia-Con 2023. On April 15, the "Momentary" gallery art exhibition opened at B1Flat in Shibuya, presenting exclusive 1/1 artworks by Mara Barl, Atrpntime, Ilyena Nienel, and Milady Sonora Sprite — artists who had previously featured in the 2021 "I Long For Network Spirituality" show. On April 16, a community meetup and the Bonkler launch party were held, also at B1Flat.[1]
