Background
The Celine Animalerie Wolf Earring was introduced as part of a supersize costume jewellery capsule unveiled alongside the Celine menswear spring-summer 2020 campaign, titled "Portrait of a Performer."[1] The capsule, described by Slimane as blending old school costume design with a new generation of performers, included the Menagerie Wolf Earring alongside cat and parrot variants, as well as geometric chandelier styles.[2] The piece was subsequently reissued under the name Animalerie Wolf Earring, produced in brass with a gold finish and white and black enamel.
The earring is part of a broader body of animal-themed work Slimane produced during his Celine tenure, which also encompassed the "Portrait of a Celine Dog" saddlery and accessories campaign starring his own border collie, Elvis. The Milady Maker trait name "Celine Dog" collapses this larger Celine-and-animals association into a single label, likely referencing both the wolf earring's visual appearance and the general cultural association between Celine under Slimane and dogs.
