The name "YAYO" functions as both slang for cocaine and an acronym for "Yoshimoto Atlantic Yield Optimization Corporation."[1]
Background
$YAYO launched during the "dog coin" phenomenon of mid-2021, when numerous cryptocurrency projects featuring derivative tokenomics and promotional messaging proliferated across the market.[2] The token positioned itself as a satirical counterpoint to this trend through exaggerated corporate aesthetics and contrarian marketing.
The project was marketed through a series of promotional essays written by the fictional character John Lemaire, "President of Planetary Sales at Yayo Corp, LLC," which parodied cryptocurrency hype copy while promoting the token.[2]
Technical details
$YAYO was deployed on the Polygon blockchain as a reflective token, implementing an automatic redistribution mechanism that rewards holders through transaction fees.[3] The choice of Polygon positioned the token as a response to the high gas fees on Ethereum during the 2021 market cycle.
